As of today, ALL my blogs will be gathered together...RIGHT HERE!
I do much better with everything in one place and believe I will do much more blogging not separating all my thoughts.
I LOVE my potpourri life...

See you soon!

  1. Phooey, I was going to comment on the post where you were giving all your books away. Too late, I find it gone.

I cancelled a book order and put through 3 books on inter-library loan. Apart from the expense, I'm running out of room so figured at least I can read them from the library. It's rare that they can't get things for me. All from reading the Beatrix Potter bio which I know you have too. Second read of it I found myself wanting "At Home with Beatrix Potter" and "Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life." Husband went into a sulk so I cancelled and re-ordered from the library.

I also bought several inks and fountain pens for journalling and drawing--now that's a slippery slope! I had to get a grip on that one. I saw someone on a forum who had 45 pens and about 30 different inks. Why? Why do we do it?

I was reading about buying too many books and people were saying to read the stuff you already have. In thinking about that I have shelves of books to read, so this seemed apt. You know: "I already have what I need" as an affirmation. Tough when you get going on a new subject, but we get free inter-library loans--a gift for sure.

I don't have money for online courses but I started a year-long weekly sketchbook project with two other women--we are doing well, so that's been wonderful. It is good to make art regularly. I also bought two new journals for writing in (with fountain pens of course.) Nice Peter Pauper Press journals--good paper, no bleed through.

Good luck in the Disneyland course!

    1. Hi Judy! I thought about rereading books, but I have a fairly good memory and that doesn't work for all my mysteries...and you are right, new interests come along! I have already added a couple of "books to hold" to my semi-empty bookshelves and then there is that Kindle! I don't regret a thing...
I love that you are sketching with a couple of friends. It is good to make art regularly and I am thankful I am very self-motivated...I just need to try and be more focused from time to time!
And as for why do we do it? It is part of our creative nature...
Happy thoughts from your fellow Art Friend

  2. You know what I find with mysteries? They sometimes run together, but mostly you remember the outcome, so I get them from the library. The only time I bought some were the J.D. Robb mysteries--bought the first 22 for my husband for an anniversary and he re-reads them all the time as well as getting new ones from the library.

I don't buy fiction, I tend to buy biographies and often read them from the library first then want my own copy. Certain heroes I just want their biography.

I also buy art technique and history books, art history, and needlework history that I consult frequently. Sometimes you just need a copy. Then I buy poetry, but I'm running out of room so do inter-library loans.

I am generally self-motivated too but just wasn't feeling it lately with age and ill health so found it nice to do a weekly with others. Surprising actually since I usually work alone. Life is surprising.

Oh you and your Kindle!!! I don't have one--hurts my eyes. Yes, happy thoughts circling the globe.
